Service Dog Criteria

 

Service  Dog Criteria 


1.    No aggression or extreme excitement around dogs or other animals (cats, birds hamsters etc.) The dog MUST be dog friendly. 
2.    No aggression towards any person, child or object. The dog MUST accept getting approached by strangers (kids, adults, teenagers etc.) without any reaction. No bite history allowed. 
3.    The dog must be environmentally sound. What do we mean by this? The dog does NOT get spooked, or reactive around any objects such as: fire hydrants, strollers, bikes, shopping carts, wheelchairs, crutches, skateboards, rollerblades, dropping of objects like pots and pans etc. 
4.    The dog is COMPLETELY potty trained and does NOT mark anything. 
5.    The dog MUST act appropriately at the vet, and tolerate being handled. 
6.    The dog cannot have a history of separation anxiety or destructive behavior when left alone. 
7.    The dog must be crate trained (or the dog must possess the ability to learn to stay in a crate).
8.    The dog cannot have any serious health issues: previously heart worm positive, hip or elbow dysplasia, history of seizures, or allergies, dental disease etc. 
9.    The dog cannot be reactive to collar grabbing. 
10.    The dog must overall be very mellow and even tempered. A dog that is really hyper or extremely lazy, is not appropriate for service work. 
11.    The dog cannot have issues with chasing cars. 
12.    The dog must be neutered or spayed or the seller must ok sterilization of the dog upon sale. 
13.    The dog must be up to date on vaccinations. (Canine distemper, Canine parvovirus, Rabies, Leptospirosis, Lyme disease, Bordetella, Canine influenza). If the dog is not current on any of these vaccination, the owner must tell us. These are the vaccinations that are required for service dog animals and we will take the dog to the vet to update needed vaccinations. 
14.    A current fecal examination must be performed (within 3 months) to show the dog is parasite free. 
15.    The dog must have acceptable behavior for grooming. The dog may protest slightly for nail trims, but cannot mouth or bite the person trying to cut the nails. 
16.    The dog must at least be 1 year of age but under the age of 5. 
17.    Do must not get car sick and behave for car rides. 


**There are exceptions to a few of these criteria. If you feel that the dog matches VERY closely expect one or two issues please contact us to further discuss the dog. There is a zero tolerance for any reactivity towards people or dogs.**
