Weight Loss Program

Has your dog been gaining extra weight and looking a little round? Has your vet suggested that your pup needs to drop a few pounds? At Canine Composure we will work directly with you and your vet (as needed) to create a proper diet and exercise regimen for your dog. There are many health risks dogs can avoid by maintaining proper weight. A large number of overweight dogs experience Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injuries requiring expensive surgeries to repair. Other health issues your overweight dog may be facing include: diabetes, heat intolerance, flatulence problems, skin and coat issues, increase risk of cancer and other diseases. As we all know the only flaw a dog has is that they don’t live forever. To make sure we get as many years possible out of our pets it is vital to maintain a healthy weight.
Our Weight Management Program involves changing feeding and exercise habits. We will sit down and discuss dog food nutrition with you and then taylor make a workout program for your dog. The Weight Loss Program lasts a minimum of one month and continues on until your dog has met their weight goals. All dogs on the weight loss program come to stay with the trainer for a month where your dog’s eating habits will be closely monitored. Your dog’s exercise needs will be met by going for walks, going on hikes, going swimming (if the dog enjoys swimming), doing treadmill work, and going on runs. If your dog is dog friendly your dog will also be able to go on the pack run every morning. Our goal is to have your dog lose weight and become healthier.
